《拥山抱水》袁进华个展，于2011年5月15日上午，在上海裕景大饭店开幕。作为当代水墨的中坚人物之一，袁进华先生为本次展览精心挑选了具有独创风格的水墨与瓷瓶釉画作品。

　　Embracing Mountains, Cradling Rivers is an exhibition of carefully selected works by Yuan Jin Hua, a central figure in contemporary Chinese ink and brush painting. The collection features ink paintings and enamel paintings executed in Yuan’s distinctive style. The solo exhibition opened on May 15, 2011 at the Eton Hotel, Shanghai.

　　袁进华，1964年生于杭州，1988年毕业于中国美术学院(原浙江美术学院)国画系，2009年6月中国美术学院国画系博士毕业，获美术学博士学位。现为浙江画院专职画师，人物画工作室主任，中国美术家协会会员。

　　Born in 1964, Hangzhou native Yuan Jin Hua graduated in 1988 from the China Art Institute (formerly Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts) with a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Painting and was conferred a PhD in Arts by the same in June 2009. He is currently an in-house artist and head of the Portrait Studio at the Zhejiang Painting Academy and a member of the Association of Chinese Artists.

　　作为中国美术学院恢复高考后前期招录的学生，袁进华具备坚实的水墨造型与表达能力，1984-1988年的本科学习经历，2006-2009年的博士学习经历，使其一直处于学院水墨研究的前沿。即使是在1989-2005之间的17年，袁进华依然通过参加中国美术学院国画系人物高级研修班，以及在浙江工业大学担任艺术教师，在浙江画院担任专职画师的方式，保持了与当代中国水墨画创作与研究群体的紧密接触。

　　Yuan has continually exhibited a strong understanding and confident expression for the ink and brush medium. He belonged to the earlier group of students who were accepted into the fine arts program of the China Art Institute upon the resumption of the National College Entrance Examination. The undergraduate years from 1984 – 1988 and subsequent doctorate studies from 2006 – 2009 placed him in the forefront of artistic developments in China. In the 17 years in between, Yuan had a teaching post at the Zhejiang University of Technology, was based with the Zhejiang Painting Academy as an in-house artist and pursued courses in traditional Chinese portraiture at the China Art Institute. Throughout his career, he is closely involved with the creative and academic community in contemporary Chinese painting.

　　1985年，以中国美术学院为发起中心之一的85新潮美术运动，影响了袁进华的艺术观，在创作的表现价值上，袁进华更倾向于阅读和传递当代的思维特征。

　　The 85 New Wave Movement, an avant-garde movement founded in 1985, has a strong influence on Yuan’s artistic approach. This is articulated in his works through an intelligent reading and sensitive delivery of contemporary thoughts.

　　正是基于当代性的认识，袁进华在其后的创作中，对题材，符号、手段等要素进行反复实验，深刻的思索了信息传播，中西差异，情欲理性，国民趣味等当代社会最为关注的课题，并以清晰的个人面目，直接的思维传达、丰富的表现语汇，纯正的水墨元素，精良的画面制作形成了独立风格;

　　Yuan Jin Hua’s keen awareness of contemporary issues is vividly captured in his works. He is an unflagging craftsman in his constant experimentation with various subject matters, symbolism and methodology while exhibiting artistic scholarship through an intellectual discourse on prevailing issues and contrasts between east – west, rational – sensual, national – individual. His singular style is the result of his thoughtful eloquence and masterful composition through a traditional medium.

　　“抱抱”系列是2006年之后，袁进华根据个人独创的半抽象符号，加以整合而成的重要作品，以几何式小人通过“叠垒”形式，出现在各种习见的中国山水画背景母题中，反映了画家对个体与群体，人物与环境的关系——这两大文化的历史性和世界性主题所作出的独创性解释，“抱抱”符号在世界和中国都是原创，并且，因为其建构而非解构的性格，使得他与前一阶段以虚无和批判为符号特征的艺术流派划清了界限，得以可能引领下一阶段中国水墨画创作思维的新趋势。

　　The series of work, Embraces, is an important collection of semi-abstractions that embodies the artist’s understanding of the eternal struggle to find a balance between the human condition and the environment, the individual and the collective. The series is unique in its use and interpretation of the “Embrace” symbolism. The constructive placement of overlapping geometric figurines against a backdrop of scenery executed in the traditional vein is a deviation from earlier works characterized by deconstructionism and existential nihilism. It is possible that the collection will have a lasting impact on creative expressions in traditional brush and ink.
